...“no participant in legal proceedings should be required by a judge or a magistrate to attend court unless it is necessary in the interests of justice. Facilitating remote attendance of all or some of those involved in hearings is the default position in all jurisdictions, whether backed by regulations or not”. View

A guidance document has been issued outlining restrictions to the services of Sheriff Officers within the five tiers of protection levels aligned to the Scottish Government’s Covid-19 guidelines. This new system has been sanctioned by the Directorate for Justice within the Scottish Government’s Civil Law and Legal System Division and it is expected that all sheriff officers should conform. The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS), which was due to end on 31 October, will now be extended, with the UK government paying 80% of wages for the hours furloughed employees do not work, up to a cap of £2,500 for periods from 1 November. View
The Lord Chief Justice and the Senior Presidents of Tribunals have confirmed that the work of the courts and tribunals will be exempt from these measures. View
The guidance has been updated and is for individuals who were furloughed using the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS), then made redundant because their employer is now insolvent. The CJRS ends on 31 October. The Insolvency Service will be providing further information with regard to the Job Support Scheme, which commences on on 1 November 2020, in due course. View

The Courts and Tribunals Judiciary has published a new protocol, which applies from 7 September 2020 and replaces the previous protocol dated 24 March 2020. View
Possession proceedings and enforcement proceedings by way of writ and warrant for possession are stayed until 23rd August 2020. This amendment extends the stay imposed by this temporary rule until 20th September 2020. View

HM Land Registry has confirmed that it will now start accepting electronic signatures – paving the way for the entire conveyancing process to be conducted electronically. View
The Chancellor announced the introduction of the Job Retention Bonus. This is a one-off payment of £1,000 to employers that have used the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) for each furloughed employee who remains continuously employed until 31 January 2021. The bonus will provide additional support to retain employees. View

Phase two of a Sheriff Officer Route Map has been published. The route map shows the resumption of additional services that includes serving charges for payment and for removing at domestic premises. View
