Standard IVA Protocol

Home / Technical Library / England & Wales / Guidance / Standard IVA Protocol

The protocol is a voluntary agreement, which provides a standard framework for dealing with consumer IVAs and applies to insolvency practitioners and creditors. Where a protocol IVA is proposed and agreed, insolvency practitioners and creditors agree to follow the processes and agreed documentation.

The Straight Forward Consumer IVA Protocol - Version 2021
This protocol can be used for all new consumer IVAs immediately, however there is a three-month transition period (until 1st August 2021) during which the 2016 protocol can also be used for new arrangements. After 1st August 2021 no new 2016 protocol IVAs should be presented to creditors for approval.

The Straight Forward Consumer IVA Protocol - Version 2016
The purpose of the protocol is to facilitate the efficient handling of straightforward consumer individual voluntary arrangements (IVAs). The protocol recognises that the IVA supports a valid public policy objective by providing debt relief for individuals in financial distress. It also recognises that at the centre of this process there is a person, who needs to understand the process and the associated paperwork and the impact that the IVA will have on their lives.
