Making your views count
02 March 2026
A key part of our work at R3 is ensuring the views and real-world experience of our members are heard where it matters most. In this blog, we share updates and next steps on recent surveys where your views are helping R3 drive meaningful change for the future of the profession.
- Our Value of the Profession report - demonstrating the profession’s economic and societal impact.
- The AI in Insolvency survey – exploring how technology is reshaping practice today and tomorrow.
- The Routes to Becoming a Licensed Insolvency Practitioner survey – understanding the barriers, opportunities and future pathways into the profession.
- Equity, diversity and inclusion survey – measuring progress since the launch of the R3-IS EDI Steering Gorup in 2020, and identifying the existence of barriers to progression within the profession.
1. Value of the Profession report
Our Value of the Profession (VoP) report is a flagship piece of research that will form the cornerstone of our advocacy, public affairs and media work throughout 2026. The last iteration of the report, published in 2021, remains one of the only comprehensive assessments of the insolvency and restructuring profession’s economic contribution, evidencing the number of businesses rescued, jobs preserved and returns delivered to creditors across the UK economy.
What the project is about
At its core, the VoP report is about demonstrating – clearly, credibly and at scale – the essential role that insolvency and restructuring professionals play across the UK. By combining anonymised case data with official statistics, this report will quantify that contribution in a way that resonates with government, regulators, industry stakeholders and the wider public.
The insights generated through this project will directly strengthen R3’s ability to advocate on behalf of members, providing authoritative evidence for engagement with policymakers, support our interventions on proposed legislative and regulatory reforms, and enhance our public messaging at a time when scrutiny of the profession is intensifying. As with the 2021 report, the findings will also play an important role in explaining to the media and the public the real world value delivered by insolvency and restructuring professionals every day.
How we are gathering the data
To ensure the 2026 report is as comprehensive and representative as possible, we are collecting data from a wide cross section of R3 member firms. We are focusing on appointments closed between 1 September and 30 November 2025, capturing both corporate and personal insolvency cases. This period gives us a meaningful snapshot of activity while keeping the reporting manageable for members.
Alongside the quantitative data, we are gathering confidential case studies, particularly relating to fraud cases, to help illustrate the profession’s role in tackling misconduct and protecting creditors. These examples help bring the numbers to life and demonstrate the breadth of the profession’s public value.
All data collected is fully anonymised, and no individual firm, practitioner or case will be identifiable.

2. AI in Insolvency survey
Launched in December 2025 and run in partnership with Alph4, this survey is already revealing how rapidly artificial intelligence is reshaping the restructuring and insolvency landscape.
Early findings show steady but uneven adoption of AI tools with a variety of applications being demonstrated across the profession utilising AI:
- document digitisation,
- spreadsheet-based workflows,
- data analysis and document review,
- investigations,
- and client onboarding.
While respondents broadly recognise the efficiency gains AI can unlock – including reduced administrative burden; faster turnaround; and meaningful cost savings - many feel the profession has not yet tapped into its full potential. A significant majority expect a “step change” in efficiency as AI becomes more embedded in day-to-day processes.

3. Survey: Routes to becoming a licensed IP
At the end of 2025 R3 issued a detailed survey to members with a view to better understanding the challenges faced by those looking to become a licensed insolvency practitioner. We received over 200 responses and would like to thank all of you who engaged with this important topic. We are reviewing the range of responses received and will utilise the insights gained to support our work with the RPBs, IS and JIE Board throughout the coming months. We will also be reviewing the range of required training for those developing their careers within the profession, to enable us to better support those at the commencement of their careers.
Closing date: This survey is now closed.
4. Equity, diversity and Inclusion survey
Run in partnership with the Insolvency Service, this key survey was recently launched to support and drive the work of the R3-IS EDI Steering Group. The EDI Steering Group plays a vital role in bringing together professionals across the restructuring, turnaround and insolvency sector, together with EDI specialists, to discuss, understand and act on, EDI challenges.
The survey is a repeat of our 2021 benchmarking survey to assess what progress has been made and to identify whether, and if so what, barriers exist to progressing within the restructuring, turnaround and insolvency profession.
