Member Spotlight: Katie Lloyd
21 October 2025
Katie is the Relationship Manager in the Insolvency Practitioner Team at Barclays and an R3 New Professional member. In this Q&A, we ask about her pathway into the profession, her role in supporting charities through committees, and how the community of R3 members at events has been vital in her development so far.
What made you decide to pursue a career in the insolvency profession?
Since moving from personal banking into business banking at the end of 2019, the insolvency sector within banking has always been of interest to me. It was an area of the banking industry that was very niche, complex, and I didn’t know much about. As someone who loves to learn, I naturally like to push myself outside of my comfort boundaries, and I was keen to learn more about businesses and how they function and operate, and how to support them particularly in times of need. The fast-paced environment and highly regulated needs of insolvency piqued my interest immediately, and I knew I wanted to explore further. I was fortunate enough to be offered the opportunity to work within the insolvency sector from a banking perspective, supporting clients as a Business Relationship Support Manager, providing me the opportunity to support the industry through insolvency. This opportunity progressed and my knowledge grew, leading me to be a dedicated Relationship Manager for the sector. The best thing about my role is meeting new people and visiting my clients, where I explore how Barclays can support their business functions in different ways. I enjoy networking across the professional bodies associated with the industry too, these events allow me to develop and constantly grow my knowledge.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your current role at Barclays?
The most rewarding aspect of my role at Barclays is my position in a committee focused on inclusion and opportunity. Barclays are outstanding in their efforts of supporting and encouraging our communities, and as such, this has offered me the opportunity to support many charities and raise awareness of many causes over my career. I have now worked for the bank a little over 17 years, and I have helped to raise close to £40,000 for different charities and have been recognised on many occasions for my commitment to this important area.
What do you consider to be your biggest achievement to date?
Almost 6 years ago I made the decision to move into the business sector of banking, and was successful in obtaining my dream job of Relationship Manager in the Insolvency Practitioner Team, which I would call my biggest achievement to date within my career.
Personally, my biggest achievement to date is recently completing a 6-year university degree, for which I am set to graduate early next year with a BA Hons Business and Management degree. This was the biggest personal goal I ever set myself, after starting my banking career at the age of 18 I chose not to attend university, but I always promised myself that one day I would go back.
What does being an R3 member mean to you and how has New Professional membership supported you?
Becoming an R3 member has been vital in my development and enhancing conversations with my clients. The events provide me with a deeper insight into my clients’ world. As a naturally social person, I thrive when I am around other likeminded individuals, R3 is a community, and you feel that when attending the events. As a new professional myself I have met other new professionals and built relationships with them at the start of their journeys, which has provided a great support for all. The value R3 have added to my learning has been instrumental, and the breadth of representation R3 offers, not only to insolvency practitioners and lawyers, to name a few, but to bankers too, strengthens their commitment for resolving financial distress, promoting economic regeneration, and maintaining integrity.
Along with knowledge and relationships, R3 have provided me the opportunity to expand my commitment to inclusion and opportunity by joining the R3 EDI Steering Group, something I am extremely proud of and a privilege to be invited.
What would you say to anyone considering a future in the restructuring, turnaround and insolvency profession?
Be prepared to learn, to enjoy working with data, and to work at pace to connect with the right parts of the business or network to support wherever possible.
What challenges do you see for the insolvency landscape in the future?
With heightened regulation and speculation of changes, it is important for the sector to keep up to date with proposals and ensure we understand any policy changes to add value in the sector.
