Ian Corfield - Restructuring Advisory Partner, FRP Advisory

Ian joined FRP in 2020 as a Partner in our Restructuring Advisory team, based in our London office. 

A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales and Licensed Insolvency practitioner, Ian has more than 30 years’ transaction advisory experience gained predominantly at KPMG UK, and then as a Partner at Grant Thornton UK, specialising in restructuring and insolvency.

Prior to joining FRP, Ian spent 5 years broadening his professional insight, firstly as Head of Head of Corporate Finance at CBRE Hotels EMEA, focusing on debt raising and refinancing mandates; and latterly as Managing Director responsible for European debt opportunities for a US headquartered debt fund.

Although sector agnostic, Ian has specific experience in restructuring advisory (confidential) and insolvency engagements in the hotel sector including:

• Project London – Lead financial adviser engaged to devise enforcement strategy on three unbranded London hotels contained in a complex opco/propco group. 

• Cheriton Parc - Advised and executed successful Company Voluntary Arrangement to secure the rescue of the Holiday Inn Folkstone.

• Morethan Hotels – Lead financial adviser to the Board, supporting stakeholder communication and landlord negotiations.

• London Dockside – Appointed as Administrator of the Hampton by Hilton Docklands; asset is currently being traded on a ‘light-touch’ basis and, following the outcome of a Rent Arbitration application, focus is now on seeking a solvent rescue of the company. 

• Hilton Manchester & Liverpool Radisson (Beetham) – Led contingency planning and appointed as Administrator.  Successful sale of both assets and full recovery of secured debt.

• Scotsman Group – Led contingency planning and appointed as Administrator.  Successful sale of business.

• Osborn Group – Lead financial adviser to lenders of first Hampton by Hilton assets in the UK; subsequently appointed as Administrator.

• Bespoke group – Appointed liquidator of five hotel operating companies and holding company which contained a portfolio of minority interests in trading hotels.

Ian also has considerable experience across the wider leisure sector including engagements such as:

• Corbin & King – Appointed Administrator of a portfolio of iconic London restaurants including the Wolseley and the Delauney; secured a sale of the business resulted in a solvent rescue and return to shareholders.

• La Tasca Restaurants – Lead financial advisor on CVA planning and subsequent Supervisor of highly successful Company Voluntary Arrangement.

• Prezzo Restaurants – Led options analysis and contingency planning exercise; business sold solvently in December 2020.
