Julie Barnes
Chief Investigator, The Insolvency Service

Julie Barnes completed 30 years service in Greater Manchester Police, working in criminal investigations and finalising her Police carrier with the North West Regional Serious and Organised Criminal Investigation Unit. She has specialised in public protection, hostage negotiation and primarily in fraud and  money laudering, employing her skills in the investigation and supervision of complex fraud and  finacial  investigations.

In 2017, Julie joined the Insolvency Service, and is currently a Chief Investigator, investigating the criminal conduct of directors and bankrupts and those who professionally enable them in the North of England. Recently she has focused on the abuse of covid support to companies and sole traders.

Julie and her Team are undergoing training to develop their skills to investigate and prosecute similar offences in the Scottish Criminal Justice System, extending their reach in the region.

She is keen to modernise the Agencies approach to criminal investigation, future proofing a PACE Interview digital platform and working alongside Companies House to create a collaberative approach to the new Companies House Reforms.
