Malcolm Weir, Director, Pension Protection Fund

Malcolm Weir is Director, Restructuring & Insolvency at the Pension Protection Fund which he joined in June 2013.  His team negotiates restructuring deals and controls the pension’s schemes rights with insolvent employers.  He also works on the PPF levy looking at the value provided by contingent assets and asset backed contributions.

Malcolm is a chartered accountant and licenced insolvency practitioner.  He has worked for KPMG & Deloitte on a wide range of insolvency and restructuring cases, more latterly focusing on overseas situations.  In 2006 he was seconded to the Pensions Regulator. 

In 2007 he joined the Barclays Corporate Business Support team responsible for large & syndicated lending specialising in real estate situations and in 2009 he became Head of Corporate Insolvency. 

While at the PPF his experience includes dealing with cases such as Halcrow, Tata Steel UK, BHS, Toy R Us, Carillion, Johnston Press, Debenhams Laura Ashley & Arcadia.
