Football is the beautiful game. The English Premier League now has a global reach and the riches therein have exploded. However, that dream of riches and success can only be attained by a few. As in any competitive world, there are winners and losers. What happens when the ambition fails to be achieved?
Insolvency of football clubs and the impact of their failure was regularly in the news in the Summer of 2019. Neil Smyth of Mills and Reeve and Matt Dunham of Dunham Dean were involved in several of the most recent cases. They work with both clubs struggling to comply with the rules and, on occasion, with the rule makers too.
In this Breakfast Briefing they outline the legal and practical issues around football insolvencies as well as offering their views on the future direction of financial restructuring within the game.
