• 10:50Sto Limited: Impact of New Regulations on a Profitable Business Next Gen Update & Presentation R3 in Scotland Next Gen Co-chair, Maxine Walker will give an update on Next Gen events & engagement followed by a recent case Next Gen members have been involved in. Sto appeared to be a profitable and operationally sound business. However, in January 2025, the company entered administration due to an estimated £50 million in contingent liabilities. The financial pressure stemmed from the Building Safety Act 2022, which placed new obligations on building owners to rectify unsafe or non-compliant cladding. As a result, many building owners sought to recover remediation costs from original contractors and suppliers, including Sto. The company received over 20 approaches from various parties, including: – Formal claims – Pre-action protocol letters – Notifications of potential claims These liabilities, although contingent, were significant enough to render the company insolvent.
