Joan Houston

"In challenging times the insolvency profession has to be seen to provide resolution to difficult and demanding circumstances for business in a robust and professional manner to address the key difficulties that the unprecedented debt levels in our society present.

As a council member for R3 I seek to raise the profile of our profession and to ensure that the members from my region participate and are represented at the heart of the organisation."

Joan carries out a broad range of corporate restructuring assignments including formal appointments and professional advice to businesses in trouble.

As the first woman in Ireland to hold an insolvency license she was a Young Career Woman of the Year when she managed a significant Reconstruction Department with a large and diverse portfolio of Receiverships, Solvent and Insolvent Liquidations. In recent years Joan was responsible for the trading a large Administration business where the US bond holders did a debt for equity swap and the group restructuring (of 22 companies across the world) rationalised it into a smaller viable business refinanced with a strong and vibrant future.

Joan has taken an active role in the technical and regulatory matters of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland and currently is Chairman of the Licensing Committee for Insolvency Practitioners for the Institute.

Joan has been Chairman and served on the Board of Governors of Hunterhouse College a Voluntary Grammar School for Girls for many years, she is an active member of Soroptimist International having been Northern Ireland President of this service organisation.
