Tim Cooper

I am a Corporate Recovery Partner at HBJ Gateley, Edinburgh, working in all aspects of corporate restructuring, asset recovery and insolvency.  I have worked throughout my 20 year career as a restructuring and insolvency lawyer in England and latterly Scotland.

I have worked in all aspects of corporate and personal insolvency, with career highlights including:

  • The Scottish Coal Company Ltd (in liquidation): advising the liquidators, a landmark case in Scottish Insolvency Law;
  • Administration rescues and recoveries, such as:
    -  Scotland: Ferguson Shipbuilders; Sangs of Banff, Behar Carpets
    -  England: Dolcis Shoes, Whittard of Chelsea, Adams Childrenswear, Silentnight
       Group, FirstCity Group, Leeds United, Leicester City FC, and Ipswich Town FC.
  • Acting for the DTI (as then was) on creditor petitions

I am the Chair of R3 in Scotland Committee, and a member of the R3 Scottish Technical Committee.


Tim enjoys walking, hiking, camping and also follows rugby union and cricket, as well as playing bodhran. He is a devoted husband and father of two.
