Having started out in the selling/trading in the food industry in the early 80s, I was soon involved in the credit operation of the businesses I worked for. Moved into working capital consultancy specialising in credit in the mid 80s and early 90s before joining Hanson first in a regional credit role then as Head of Credit. In the early 2000s moved across to Tarmac centralising the credit function for the market leader in 2005 and then managing a restructure, creating a specialist Credit Management/Risk team. All this whilst driving continual performance improvement despite the disruption on the 2008/9 financial crisis. With the move to different ownership in 2013, I joined Biffa, one of the leading waste businesses in the UK, as Head of Credit, stabilising cashflow to facilitate their flotation in 2016. Rejoining Tarmac in 2017, with CRH as owners, I restructured the credit function, driving historically best ever cashflow and bad debt performance, notably since COVID in 2020.
