Patrick Schumann is a Partner in King & Spalding’s Finance & Restructuring Group, based in London. Patrick has broad experience advising clients on complex cross-border restructurings, formal insolvencies and distressed debt situations. He has acted on numerous high-profile cases in a variety of sectors, including energy, construction and commodities. His clients include asset managers, banks, insolvency practitioners, debtors, directors as well as trustee and agents. He also has experience in banking and structured finance transactions, in particular in leveraged financings, structured products as well as derivatives. Patrick’s notable representations include advising Refinery de Cartagena as principal opposing creditor in relation to the $1.3bn multi-jurisdictional restructuring of EPC contractor McDermott, acting for Sound Point Capital as revolving facility lender to Cineworld in relation to the company’s restructuring plan and representing the Ukrainian Export-Import Bank in connection with the $17.5 billion recapitalisation of the Ukraine by the International Monetary Fund. Patrick is quoted in Legal500 has having “deep knowledge of English insolvency law issues which he puts to good use in structuring complex transactions”. Patrick twice worked on matters awarded IFLR Restructuring Deal of the Year, namely in 2022 (DeepOcean) and 2024 (Reficar).
