Matt works with companies, sponsors, and key stakeholders during periods of stress or distress—typically supporting fundamentally sound businesses facing complex challenges. A sector generalist with a particular interest in retail and consumer-facing businesses, he brings a collaborative and empathetic approach to high-pressure situations, aiming to preserve or create value where it’s often at risk. Solving difficult problems is not only his expertise—it’s what drives him. His experience spans a wide range of restructuring and turnaround projects, including leading the Restructuring Plan for River Island and the trading administration of wilko—one of the largest UK retail restructurings in over a decade. This involved coordinating over 200 specialists across PwC to trade nearly 400 stores, manage a large property portfolio, and maintain communications with 12,000 employees, suppliers, media, and politicians. He has also advised listed boards on CVAs and restructuring plans, completed successful refinancings, and taken on CEO/CRO secondments to deliver turnaround strategies. Beyond retail, he has supported clients across sectors such as healthcare, manufacturing, construction, and energy. His work includes M&A (solvent and insolvent), contingency planning, sell-side diligence, and helping management teams execute MBO spin-outs. His ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments and deliver practical, results-driven outcomes has made him a trusted advisor in times of uncertainty.
