What to Expect
The first Midlands quarterly meeting of 2022 will be hosted by DLA Piper at its offices at Two Chamberlain Square, Paradise Circus, Birmingham.
The meeting will examine the Government’s consultation on the future of insolvency regulation and the fundamental reforms proposed for the UK’s insolvency regulatory framework. Caroline Sumner, CEO of R3, will outline the proposals and their implications for the profession, followed by an open discussion to gather members’ views and help inform R3’s response to the consultation.
The programme will also explore the pressures facing the UK energy market after a wave of supplier failures and sharp rises in energy prices. Matt Cowlishaw and Eddie Williams will discuss the challenges arising from the Bulb Energy Special Administration Regime and the Supplier of Last Resort process.
A further session will consider the impact of the Commercial Rent (Coronavirus) legislation and the use of binding arbitration for property-related debts incurred during the pandemic. A panel of legal, insolvency, property and arbitration specialists will discuss how the legislation may work in practice and what it could mean for landlords and tenants.
