Professor Peter Walton -Director, Law Research Centre, University of Wolverhampton and Member of R3’s General Technical Committee

After graduating from Wolverhampton Law School in 1986, Professor Walton began his academic career as a Research Assistant in the Law School, a position from which he progressed to Lecturer in 1988 and then onto Senior Lecturer in 1996. For the year 1991-2 he was Visiting Professor at Akron University, Ohio, USA. In 2004 he was promoted to Principal Lecturer and became the Director of the Law School’s Legal Practice Course, a position he held for six years. In 2007 he was appointed as a Reader in Law. From 2010 onwards he has been the Director of the University’s Law Research Centre. In 2013 he was awarded a chair in recognition of his research. He is now a Professor of Insolvency Law.

Professor Walton has held a number of external examiner appointments both at other Universities and in relation to qualifications offered by Governmental and professional bodies. He has spoken at many national and international conferences on aspects of insolvency law.

Professor Walton has conducted several large empirical research projects on behalf of respectively the UK Government and the UK insolvency practitioner profession. His research has been cited in Parliament on several occasions and has been the subject of House of Commons’ Early Day Motions. He is currently acting as consultant to the Government of Kenya whereby he is re-drafting Kenya’s insolvency regime.
