Richard Hodgson

Richard Hodgson is a partner in Linklaters’ restructuring and insolvency practice, having worked in the field for over 14 years. He is particularly experienced in advising clients on security enforcement issues and on situations where companies are or are likely to become subject to formal insolvency proceedings, undertaking contingency planning and providing strategic advice to stakeholders. Richard has a wealth of experience acting for insolvency officeholders on all manner of formal insolvency processes, including complex trading administration situations and the use of an insolvency process to implement a broader restructuring. He also has wide experience in distressed M&A situations, acting for both purchasers and insolvency practitioners as sellers.


Recent matters across the scope of Richard’s core practice include: 

  • Acting for Vodafone on its acquisition of a significant part of the former Phones 4U business from its administrators;
  • Acting for the parent retail group of the La Senza UK business in the build up to and aftermath of its insolvency;
  • Acting for Deloitte as administrators of Yell (the international directories business), including in relation to certain stakeholder management matters;
  • Acting for Deloitte as administrators of the HMV Group, including matters relating to the trading of the business and its subsequent sale;
  • Acting for PwC as administrators of the GAME Group, including matters relating to the trading of the business and its sale to the senior lender;
  • Acting for Home Retail Group on its acquisition of the certain parts of the business and stores of Habitat from its administrators;
  • Various on-going roles acting for PwC as administrators of Lehman Brothers International (Europe) and related Lehman entities.
