R3 is the trade association for the UK’s insolvency, restructuring, advisory, and turnaround professionals. With over 2,500 members we represent insolvency practitioners, lawyers, turnaround and restructuring experts, students, and others in the profession.

R3’s work includes:

R3’s work is supported by nine committees, Education, Courses and Conferences Committee (ECC), General Technical Committee (GTC), Scottish Technical Committee (STC), Membership Committee (MC), R3 Policy Group, Fraud Group, Personal Insolvency Committee (PIC), Regional Communications Committee (RCC) and Smaller Practices Group Committee (SPG).

R3’s membership is split into ten regions, each region having a Regional Chair, a Regional Council member and a committee responsible for co-ordinating events and activities in the region, providing PR support for the members in its region and acting as a conduit for members to submit their views to R3 on issues that interest or affect them.

R3 is a private company limited by guarantee and operates as a not-for-profit organisation. 

Job Description

Reporting directly to the Technical and Education Director, this varied role involves taking responsibility for two of R3’s key areas of work, the Smaller Practices Group and Regional Communications.  R3 members within smaller practices make up a significant and vital part of R3’s membership and this role involves ensuring that the smaller practice concerns are identified and addressed by R3’s press, public and technical work to ensure that R3 fully meets the needs and expectations of our members.  The R3 local network and committees are an integral part of R3’s provision of services and benefits to members, providing in many instances the most direct and effective route of communication and engagement with members. The regional network is fundamental to R3’s engagement strategy, ensuring that R3 is fully informed of issues affecting its broad membership base and providing a conduit for seeking and disseminating information to its members via its regional network. RCC brings together the Regional Chairs and Regional Council members so they can co-ordinate the provision of technical guidance, networking opportunities and facilitate direct engagement with members, regardless of location.

In addition to managing all aspects of RCC and SPG committee management, this varied and challenging role involves establishing relationships with the regional chairs, committee members and SPG members to ensure that R3 fully meets the needs and expectations of our members. R3 organises two regional conferences annually and a two day residential conference and one day technical forum aimed specifically at the SPG community. An important part of the role involves working closely with committee members and the R3 events team to ensure that these conferences are properly organised and are successful events.

There will also be the opportunity for the successful candidate to set up and establish a new R3 committee, the International and European Committee, bringing together those with a knowledge of or interest in international and European insolvency issues.

Personal specification

Experience of working within the insolvency profession and knowledge of how the insolvency profession is regulated is essential. You will demonstrate that you are self-motivated, efficient and an excellent communicator both in oral and written communications. Education to degree level is essential and previous experience of working with committees and working groups would be desirable. You will also demonstrate that you have strong organisational skills, that you are a team player and are able to work to deadlines. You will be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and have a flexible and resourceful approach to working.

Strong writing skills are essential, with an eye for detail and the ability to obtain, analyse and present information in a user friendly manner.

The main duties and responsibilities of the role include:

  1. Provide secretarial support to both the Regional Communications and Smaller Practice Group Committees, identifying matters to be discussed at the committee meetings, working with the Committee chairs to prepare and issue agendas and supporting papers, undertake back ground research, attending meetings, writing and circulating minutes and progressing action points.
  2. Responsibility for keeping SPG members updated on the work of the SPG Committee, including writing copy for the SPG page in Recovery magazine, drafting SPG updates to members and drafting articles for R3’s member newsletters.
  3. Working closely with other R3 teams and Committees to ensure that SPG member interests are taken into account at R3 Committee meetings, involving participation in meetings of R3 Council, ECC, GTC, Policy Group and Fraud Group as appropriate.
  4. Providing support for ongoing and effective engagement with members via the regional network and keeping members updated on R3’s work in conjunction with the Communications team.
  5. In conjunction with the Technical and Education Director supporting the effective operation of R3’s regional network, including the Regional Chairs and local committees, to ensure that the annual R3 budget contribution for the regions is achieved.
  6. Working closely with committee members and the R3 events team to ensure that conferences aimed specifically at SPG members (SPG Forum and SPG Technical Reviews) and regional conferences (Northern and Southern) are properly organised and are successful events.
  7. Support the Technical and Education Director and Technical Manager in the production of guides to members to support the work of profession.
  8. Attendance at Regional events and R3 conferences will be required.
  9. Bespoke project work - as part of your role in managing a number of R3’s committees and working groups, you will be responsible for overseeing and progressing discrete projects, which could include research into technical and practical topics; developing bespoke reports and guidance documents; drafting briefing documents; and developing and analysing data management information to support a number of R3’s areas of work.
  10. Provide line management, guidance and support in developing individual junior members of the Technical, Education and Committees team.
